Tis the season

This season, while it can be busy and certainly expensive, is undeniably a great time of the year.
I just today got my christmas card from my dear friend Carol Hill. I am honoured to be the one she entrusts with illustrating her thoughts, always about family and always so beautifully written. At our home it just wouldn’t be Christmas without her card. It keeps us informed on how everyone in her family is and helps to remind me how important my family is to me. I would guess that it may come as a surprise to Carol that it has become a part of our Christmas experience but I am glad that it has….Thanks Carol.
Season’s Greetings to all.
Having a bad day

It’s a tilted world
Posted in Business on December 16th, 2005My friend and business partner Rob Dokuchie of Overdrive Design had to remind me once again that the horizon in one of my photos was tilted. I do have to say that I spend a lot of time straightening out horizons only because I am usually concentrating on the subject and looking for that decisive moment. One of my favourite photographers, street shooter Garry Winogrand, shot the same way, his explanation was basically…. what horizon I wasn’t shooting a picture of the horizon.
I really think life is a little off kilter anyways.
The Big Apple
Posted in Business on December 15th, 2005This is my first blog so please bear with me. I must say the chance to be able to tell others about the issues involved in being in business has a certain appeal. It seems that the harder we work at providing high quality products the more some of the companies we have to deal with could care less. I accidently deleted some files from my computer and I am sure it comes as no surprise to most people that when I tried to contact Apple for support I was informed by a recording that they do not provide phone support for “dotmac” so I sent an email.. and waited and waited and waited and waited and waited.
here is the email and my response…

Dear Tom,
Thank you for contacting Apple.
While syncing regularly does create another copy of your calendars and other data on your iDisk, we always suggest keeping additional backups if you have crucial information you cannot afford to lose. We cannot be responsible for customers who inadvertently delete their own data.
Since you chose to delete the conflicting data on your computer with the data from .Mac, it appears that .Mac does not have the most up-to-date data. It does not appear that you have made any backups to the iDisk using the Backup application.
If you have backed up your data to an external drive, your local hard drive, or a CD/DVD, you can restore it using the Restore command in the Backup application. The method for restoring your backup data will depend on the version of Backup that you are using.
thanks so much for the excuses, It was a part of isync 1.5 to be able to restore but you have apparently chosen to eliminate this feature in 2.0 so to say that it isn’t your responsibility to cover “customers who inadvertently delete their own data”, as you put it, is the result of eliminating that from a program, not a case of you having to add it.
And I don’t need to be talked down to (I get it I should have backed up, but I made a mistake - not unlike taking out the ability to restore from isync) by a company that I have brought 10s of thousands of dollars in business to.

I should say that overwhelmingly the businesses we deal with are small businesses and are top notch and it is great to deal with them. I hope to be able to talk about them in the near future as they deserve credit for their service and quality just like the Big Apple.
